Owner's Story

For Jay and Jessica Springthorpe, bringing Ivybrook Academy to Winston-Salem was a decision born from a desire to serve their community and build a future for their own growing family.

Both owners have roots in North Carolina. Jay was born and raised in Mount Airy and attended Western Carolina University, where he performed with the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band, before earning his degree in Computer Information Technology. He brings over a decade of experience as a software developer across industries ranging from public safety to supply chain management. Jessica, originally from upstate New York, moved to Winston-Salem at age 12 and is a graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School. With a degree in Psychology from Queens University, she spent ten years in Aquatics and Risk Management, where she discovered her passion for early childhood education while writing curriculum for summer camps.

The Springthorpes decided to open Ivybrook Academy after recognizing a significant gap in high-quality preschool options in the Winston-Salem area. They wanted to create the kind of educational environment they knew their own future children would deserve.

In their free time, the couple enjoys hiking together. Jay is also an avid woodworker and gamer, while Jessica loves crafting and event planning.
